The steady afternoon breeze that blows along this coast in summer is at its strongest in July and August. That cuts two ways: excellent conditions for sailors, and a livelier afternoon sea for anyone hoping for a flat motor cruise. It is why skippers plan long passages for the morning and sheltered bays for the second half of the day.
In May, early June and from September onwards the breeze is distinctly softer. If seasickness is a concern, those months will be easier.
Sea temperature
Water warms up later than air and cools down later too. In April the air can be pleasant while the sea is still cold; in October the air begins to cool but the sea holds the heat it built through the summer. For swimming, October is clearly the better end of the season.
